The Victorian Government has finalised the new Architect Regulations 2026, which commenced on 25 April 2026.
Architects in Victoria are regulated under the Architects Act 1991 and supporting regulations. As part of a routine sunset review, the Department of Transport and Planning reviewed existing regulations to make sure they remain up to date and fit for purpose in a modern and evolving industry.
The new regulations respond to stakeholder feedback and aim to improve how the system operates, while keeping requirements practical and easy to follow.
The Architects Regulations 2026 will:
- update Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements and strengthen the Code of Professional Conduct to ensure architects maintain their valuable skills, continue to act ethically and work within their expertise – supporting safe, high-quality buildings
- strengthen consumer protections by improving transparency in client agreements, fees, conflicts of interest and complaints
- support efficient and effective regulation through fair and transparent fees, enabling the Architects Registration Board of Victoria (ARBV) to fulfil its responsibilities. There will be no overall fee increases for architects.
