Caravan parks are an important and valued part of the Victorian lifestyle and economy. They provide permanent and temporary accommodation across the state.

Regulations

Caravan parks in Victoria are regulated under Part 14 of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 and the Residential Tenancies (Caravan Parks and Movable Dwellings Registration and Standards) Regulations 2020.

The Act and the Regulations provide for the safety and amenity of people who use caravan parks. The Minister for Planning is responsible for administering Part 14 of the Act and the Regulations.

The Regulations provide for the health and safety of caravan park users, and set standards for the construction of caravan park cabins. They do not cover the manufacture of caravans or campervans. These are road vehicles that are covered by separate standards.

Victorian caravan parks road design

We have worked with the Victorian Caravan Parks Association Incorporated (VicParks) to consult with road design experts to develop guidance on design principles for roads in caravan parks.

The Victorian Caravan Parks Road Design Guiding Principles and checklist is a guide for caravan park owners and operators on assessing safety aspects of roads within caravan parks.

These guides should be used when planning new caravan parks or redeveloping existing caravan parks. They can also be used by operators of existing caravan parks to identify and remove potential hazards.
