VicRoads proposes to bypass the township of Beaufort with a new section of the Western Highway.
This section would link with completed sections of the Western Highway duplication to the east and west of Beaufort.
The project includes the selection of road alignment(s) and the associated identification of land to be reserved to enable the future construction of the bypass. This will also include interchanges to connect with the Beaufort township, several waterway crossings, an overpass of the Melbourne-Ararat rail line and intersection treatment of local roads.
On 22 July 2015 the Minister for Planning determined that an Environment Effects Statements (EES) is required for the project due to the potential for significant effects.
The EES will need to provide a detailed examination of the environmental impacts of the proposed project.
Draft Scoping Requirements for this Environmental Effects Statement (EES) were placed on public exhibition from 21 November to 9 December 2016.
After considering public submissions on the Draft Scoping Requirements, the Minister for Planning issued final Scoping Requirements for the EES on 4 January 2017.
VicRoads is currently finalising a communication and consultation plan for the EES, outlining the opportunities and approaches for their community engagement during the preparation of the EES.
The department has advised VicRoads on the refinement of the plan.
