The department is partnering with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation to record cultural values associated with the Yarra River (Birrarung).
This project delivers the Victorian Government’s commitment in the Yarra River Action Plan (2017) to work with the Traditional Owners to map tangible and intangible cultural values along the Yarra River.
Pilot Project - Bulleen to Banyule Flats reach of the Birrarung
The project commenced in 2018 with the pilot focusing on the highly significant Bulleen to Banyule Flats reach of the Birrarung. Led by the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Corporation, the Bulleen-Banyule Flats Cultural Values Study was completed in 2020.

The Bulleen-Banyule Flats Cultural Values Study is helping the Traditional Owners to actively care for Country and providing a basis for the ongoing protection and enrichment of cultural values through land use planning and management processes.
DELWP has committed funding to partner with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Corporation to undertake further cultural values mapping along the Birrarung, with the next stage to commence in 2021.
