We’re helping get more homes built faster by expanding a quicker approval process for small housing projects.
From October, developments of up to four homes on a single lot in residential areas will be able to have their applications assessed in 10 business days instead of more than 60 days, as long as they meet existing rules.
The change builds on reforms introduced last year for two-home developments and follows strong interest from builders and homeowners.
Quicker decisions mean less waiting, lower costs and more homes being built sooner for Victorian families.
Projects must still meet the requirements of Victoria’s Townhouse and Low-Rise Code, including standards for neighbourhood character, landscaping, privacy and design. Proposals that do not meet specified standards can continue through the normal planning process.
Heritage controls, environmental overlays and other planning protections will continue to apply. The changes build on other planning reforms designed to increase housing supply and deliver more homes, including the Train and Tram Zone Activity Centre Program, Mid-Rise Code, Single Homes Code and more.
