Waterways policy and strategy
Plan Melbourne
Plan Melbourne – Melbourne’s metropolitan planning strategy – guides the growth of our city through to 2050. Plan Melbourne also provides policies and strategies to protect our waterways.
Healthy Waterways Strategy
The Healthy Waterways Strategy is a shared strategy across Melbourne Water, state and local government, water corporations and the community providing strategic direction towards a regional vision for the health of rivers, estuaries and wetlands in the Port Phillip and Westernport region.
Closely linked are a range of co-designed catchment programs, including for the Yarra and Maribyrnong catchments, which support the region-wide strategy by providing a flexible framework for managing waterways across Melbourne’s main catchments.
Water for Victoria and the Victorian Waterways Management Strategy
Water for Victoria is a plan for a future with less water as Victoria responds to the impact of climate change and a growing population, while the Victorian Waterway Management Strategy provides the policy direction for managing Victoria’s waterways and aims to maintain or improve their condition.
