The Yarra River Protection Ministerial Advisory Committee (Yarra MAC) released its discussion paper Protecting the Yarra River (Birrarung) (PDF, 921.6 KB) or (DOCX, 62.1 KB) on 1 July 2016. It remained available for public comment over a five-week consultation period that concluded on 8 August 2016.
Engagement activities conducted during the consultation period included more than 270 face-to-face conversations with stakeholders and the community at workshops at listening posts. We also received 195 written submissions on the ideas for reform presented in the discussion paper. Submissions were received from councils, community groups, sporting organisations, business and individuals.
The views expressed, and suggestions received, were broad-ranging. Opinions varied, sometimes widely. But one thing was very clear across all the feedback; the community cares deeply for the Yarra and want to see the river and its parklands protected well into the future.
Community Views Report
We have summarised the feedback received on the Yarra MAC discussion paper in our Community Views Report. It provides an overview of what we heard from the community at workshops and listening posts as well as through written submissions.
We have also published here most of the 195 written submissions received. A small number of submissions have not been published. This is because the submitter requested the submission not be published or we were unable to contact the submitter to gain permission to publish the submission.
Some submissions have been redacted according to the project’s privacy collection notice (PDF, 280.7 KB) or to protect the privacy of individuals named in submissions.
