Overview

The Minister for Planning has approved state-wide planning requirements for the Victorian greyhound industry following public consultation undertaken in late 2016.

The planning requirements form part of the Government’s commitment to support the Victorian greyhound industry to continue to grow and thrive into the future in a sustainable manner.

Greyhound racing contributes more than $408 million to the Victorian economy and supports almost 2900 jobs through Greyhound Racing Victoria and its 13 clubs at Ballarat, Bendigo, Cranbourne, Geelong, Healesville, Horsham, Broadmeadows, Sale, Springvale, Shepparton, Traralgon, Warragul and Warrnambool.

The planning requirements provide a much needed set of consistent and measurable requirements to provide clarity and certainty for greyhound participants, councils and the community across Victoria.

The new planning requirements came into operation on 29 August 2017 through Amendment VC139.
