The Victorian Government is committed to developing a state-wide golf facilities plan. Action 67 of the Plan Melbourne Implementation Plan is to work with the golf industry and local governments to develop the golf facilities plan to meet the future needs of the sport.
Golf is an important contributor to tourism and recreation in Victoria, and makes significant economic contributions to the state. However, the sport is currently facing challenges such as changing participation trends, declining club memberships, increasing operational costs, and interest in using golf course land for other purposes.
Consultation on the Planning for Golf in Victoria discussion paper will run until 14 August 2017.
The Planning for Golf in Victoria discussion paper is the first step in developing a state-wide golf facilities plan. The discussion paper contains a range of ideas based on five key challenges facing golf – participation, membership, supply and demand, land use, and governance.
