Our role

The purpose of the advisory committee is to review the future of the Public Acquisition Overlay affecting properties within the City of Stonnington. The overlay is located on the east side of Punt Road, along the 2.6 kilometres between Alexandra Avenue, South Yarra and Union Street, Windsor. The committee sought input from affected landowners, stakeholders and agencies before making a recommendation to the Minister for Planning on whether to retain, modify or remove the overlay.

A series of questions and answers (DOCX, 27.0 KB) was prepared for this project.


The advisory committee was appointed under Section 151 of the Planning and Environment Act 1987. It was tasked with producing a report and recommendations on whether to modify or remove the Public Acquisition Overlay affecting Punt Road within the City of Stonnington.

The Report will be made available here once it has been released to the public.

On 17 August 2016, the Minister for Planning requested that further technical work be undertaken by VicRoads in accordance with the Advisory Committee's recommendations to inform Government's decision about the PAO. The Government will make a decision on the PAO early in 2017 following consideration of this further technical work. In accordance with the Advisory Committee's terms of reference, the full report and recommendations will be made public along with the Minister's decision.
