Our role

The advisory committee was appointed to consider the MCG Quarries application for a basalt stone quarry at 320 Mooleric Road, Ombersley.

The Colac Otway Shire refused MCG Quarries Pty Ltd's planning permit application (PP169/2014).

On 10 February 2015, MCG Quarries applied to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Appeal Tribunal (VCAT) (Application for Review P281/2015) for a review of the Council's decision.

The Minister for Planning called in the matter from VCAT on 26 October 2015.

The Minister appointed this committee on 18 December 2015, to consider the matter.

Interim report

The advisory committee submitted an interim report and Request for Governor in Council Order on 20 April 2016.

Following the consideration of the matter by the Governor in Council the interim report (PDF, 647.0 KB) was publicly released on  20 July 2016.

Public hearings

The Public Hearings were held on 21, 22, 23 November and 2, 6, 12 and 14 December 2016.

Submission of final report

The advisory committee submitted its final report (PDF, 1.9 MB) on 9 February 2017.

Outcome

On 6 June 2017,  the Governor in Council made an order, including directing the Colac Otway Shire Council to issue Planning Permit PP169/2014-1 (PDF, 4.5 MB) for the use and development of land for stone extraction, subject to conditions.
