Community input is being sought to help shape future land use, open space and development of the Cultural River Precinct – a corridor of the Yarra River between Bulleen Park and Banyule.
Community feedback will inform the development of a draft Cultural River Precinct Structure Plan, which will be released for further public consultation.
The public is invited to comment on a range of topics pertaining to the Precinct, including attitudes relating to recreational spaces, bike paths, cultural sites and future development.
Working in partnership with Traditional Owners – the Wurundjeri – and the city councils of Manningham and Banyule, DELWP will ensure the structure plan recognises and protects cultural values, and the values and aspirations of the community.
The structure plan will provide a 50-year outlook which aims to ensure the long-term protection of the Yarra River and its parklands, and manage development along the Yarra corridor.
The structure plan will also help realise the river’s potential as an internationally significant cultural precinct centred on the relationship between the arts, nature and Aboriginal heritage.
The Cultural River Precinct Structure Plan is a key component of the Yarra River Action Plan (Wilip-gin Birrarung murron), a blueprint to protect the Yarra’s health and amenity.
The Action Plan comes at a critical time in the history of Melbourne, as population growth places increased pressure on the Yarra and its future health.
Help safeguard the Yarra River and its landscapes.
The engagement process is open until May 20.
